Parallels For Mac Won't Start

I upgraded to 10.6.8 and since then, although Mac OS seems to be working perfectly I am unable to start Parallels 6. It stalls immediately on the grey 'sausage shaped' item sayin Parallels Desktop with a spinning logo. Parallels has been working perfectly for over 6 months prior to this. I cannot be CERTAIN that the upgrade to MacOS is the culprit but I am suspicious.

  1. Tagged as installation problems, machine processor was reset, Parallels Desktop for Mac. Parallels Desktop won’t start my operating system”.
  2. Parallels agreed: “Since we've got a great Mac product, we should make it look and sound like a Mac product.”, it was therefore renamed ‘Parallels Desktop for Mac’. [1] On January 10, 2007, Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac was awarded “Best in Show” at MacWorld 2007.

Start virtual machines on Mac boot. Released August 20, 2014, Parallels Desktop for Mac 10 has included support for OS X 10.10 'Yosemite' Less than a year after release of its release, Parallels spokesperson John Uppendahl confirmed version 10 will not be fully compatible with Windows 10.

I'm relatively new to Mac, though well versed in Windows for many years and willing to 'have a go.'

Can I try downgrading from 10.6.8 to 10.6.7? Is there any way to get into Parallels?

Any advice welcome.

My mac won t restart

Posted on

Hi there,

We have a Macbook Air for home use, but I prefer to work in Windows (the same as my work environment). We heard about Parallels, so have taken the following steps, but are encountering problems:

  1. we upgraded the Mac OS to Yosemite
  2. we purchased Parallels 10
  3. we purchased Windows 8.1 Pro Student

We have installed Parallels, and now have this on the desktop. We downloaded Windows 8.1 Pro Student and this is sitting in downloads on the Mac. When we open Parallels we get 'Parallels Wizard, Virtual Machine' which asks us to install from a device or migrate from another PC. (note - We don't want to replicate another PC, just want to run Windows on the Mac). When we the try to open the download for Windows 8.1 Pro Student we get the following message:

You can’t open the application “OSGS14-WindowsSetupBox-32bitand64bit-English-4141408-3.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X.

Parallels For Mac Home

Come

Does anyone please have any ideas as to the next steps so that we can start using Parallels on the Mac?? Note, 8.1 Pro Student is the only Windows program we have downloaded onto the Mac - is it just an upgrade, and not a base system and that's why it doesn't work??

Thanks very much
